Department of Mechanical Engineering

About Us

The department of mechanical engineering has offered undergraduate courses since 1993. The department also offers the post-graduate programme with five specialization fields in solid mechanics engineering, fluid mechanics engineering, renewable engineering, thermodynamics and heat transfer engineering, and industrial and manufacturing engineering for the master degree and Ph.D degree. The educational philosophy of the department emphasise learning the scientific fundamentals of engineering as a foundation for proficient and innovative practice. Interactive classroom lectures are augmented by hands-on laboratory sessions and design and research experience. At the both undergraduate and graduate levels, the students will have an academic advisor from whom the students can seek help in identifying opportunities to enhance their educational experience. For a sustainable future as well as for the advancement of engineering teaching and research, collaboration between the department and industry can also be enjoyed in their student life. Presently, the department has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated teaching faculty members, actively participating in research and consultancy work. Over a period of time, the department has built up a wide research potential. The department strongly believes in continuous efforts to strive for excellence by exploring new frontiers of knowledge, impacting the latest technical knowledge to the students and conducting high quality research.

History

Mechanical Engineering Department offered M.E and Ph.D courses. The courses scheduled to be offered have been reviewed and revised by Board of Postgraduate Studies of the Engineering Departments. Each course carries a ‘credit’ rating relating to the work load for each semester. The candidates registered for Master Degree is required to obtain minimum (60) credit points from two semesters. Each semester takes (16) weeks. In case of Ph.D courses, the candidates are required to obtain minimum (18) credit points of core courses from one semester. Four skill English courses are compulsory for both courses. The courses are designed to provide the students with the necessary research training oriented program and special assignments. In addition to formal course work, students are also required to participate in group seminars and weekly departmental seminars.

Vision

  • Collaborate and integrate with local and international expert groups and industrial sectors for fail industrialization and mechanization especially in the agricultural and manufacturing engineering and energy sectors.
  • Participate activity in the Asian and international academic activities and upgrade the current state of technology and education up to internationally recognized level.

Mission

  • To produce qualified engineers with strong theoretical knowledge and analytical skills.
  • To build up skills for synergetic and practical approach to complex engineering problems, product design, process design, machinery diagnostics and maintenance to suit local needs.
